It never ends, does it?

I thought the Democratic primary might finally be over this evening. But having watched Hillary and Obama give speeches and lots of talking heads, it apparently isn't over yet. Six months and it still isn't over. My god, when will it ever end. Does the woman not realize she's lost? Anybody with half a brain already knows she's lost.

Andrew Sullivan, meanwhile, is losing his mind. But that's hardly a surprise.

I know this will likely end in the next couple of days. But this evening would have been a graceful and classy way to exit. But that never happened. Instead, it was an implied threat to make her the vice-president. Jesus.

On the other hand, there's no drama like this anywhere in Canadian politics. Doc O'Keefe won the mayor's race in St. John's this evening. I just remembered to check. I've spent all evening watching the primaries wrap up. Kind of sad, really.

Anyway, I hope it's over in the next couple of days. But it won't be. Not until November.

As much as I fear for my sanity, I worry more about my friend Andrew. His wife was, according to some IMs I was getting from her this evening, actively cursing at the TV and Hillary. And possibly drinking heavily. I fear she won't make it to November. And, if they move to Canada, she might die from boredom dealing with Canadian politics. The withdrawals after this campaign are going to be brutal.

It's not over YET?

I now actively dislike her instead of just generally wishing she would go away.

Oh that woman is going to be the death of me.
She could have shown true leadership last night by ending it and strongly throwing her support behind Obama. Instead she has decided to make a complete ass of herself. Her husband had already made one of himself so why not.

Its very clear that she will not get the VP nod - it would be political suicide for Obama.

Now - must do something about his headache......

I spent yesterday with Americans in somewhere USA (as I do most days). Their responses regarding this hohum were mostly shrugs. At this point they're just waiting to see who the running mates will be. Average middle class working stiffs who are bored stiff about the whole thing. It's almost like they're pretty sure that their vote doesn't count anyway.

Now everyone is touting her to be the running mate and all I can think of is "Run away Obama! Run as fast as you can!".

It seems pretty clear that she thinks she is the annointed one and that the president's job should be hers. Can you think that she wouldn't be trying to be the President all of the time? Or doing what ever she could to sewer you in order to move one more step up the job scale?

Scarlett, it really is easy to get caught up that this is the biggest thing happening in America, when the average person is probably paying more attention to other things.

As for the odds of her being VP, I think the most rational assessment I've seen so far is that it depends on where things stand in August. If Obama can heal a good percentage of the damage and is comfortably ahead in the polls, then he's going to pick his candidate.

If he's tied or trailing and Clinton supporters are still on the warpath, then he might cave and pick her as the VP.

My two picks right now are General Wes Clark and Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius. But we'll see how that goes.

Wes Clark is a hardcore Hilary guy. I don't think he'll get it. Everyone likes Sebelius but I don't think she'll get it either.

I really like and am hoping for Jim Webb.

I told my American pals yesterday that most Canadians were watching all of this very closely and we were quite caught up in it. They looked at me funny and asked me if I'd seen Sex and The City yet.

I've worked for a large American company for many years and I remember just before Bush got re-elected every American I spoke to freely told me they weren't voting Republican. Families on the many airplanes I take, couples standing in line for hot dogs, and all the people I work with except for one (although I really wasn't doing a poll or anything).

Yet, there he is. I was surprised I must say.

So, this time I think some are keeping it to themselves. Maybe it's some sort of superstition thing. Like seeing the bride in her dress before the wedding.

I haven't been following the news quite as closely lately as I usually do. So it's quite a shock to hear this gong show is still going on.

I am reminded of the perpetual sink of dirty dishes I had back in my student days. No matter how hard I try to ignore it, it just doesn't seem to want to go away.
