In orbit

I don't know if these pics are real or not. I originally saw them on Warren Ellis blog and a couple of people in Ellis comments section have expressed some doubt about them. But I haven't seen anyone outright discredit them.

I hope they're real. They're beautiful shots of the last space shuttle launch as seen from the International Space Station. Stuff like this, it's why I wanted to be an astronaut when I was a kid.

I still hope I get into space one day. If there is a great disapointment in my life it's how space travel has essentially gone nowhere during my 36 years on this planet. We were supposed to be on Mars now with a base on the moon. sigh...

Anyway, the pics...

I always wanted to be an astronaut and thought I might end up as one as I took up space in school.

I actually thought that after I retired I might go back to school and try and get a doctorate in something and apply to Canada's space program. All of our astronauts are like ninja PhD'd super people.

Ah the power of dreams.

I admit these are fantastic shots, but I would hazard a guess that these were taken from the upper atmopsphere by chase planes or something else upwards to 80,000-100,000 ft. I have Googled for these pics and cannot find anything else like it, but I have seen pictures from the ISS and the curvature of the Earth is must more pronounced and the blue of the atmosphere is less prominent. Still these are damned impressive. If I ever get up there i will send you some shots, lol.

This should clear things up.
