House pictures

We've been having a pretty mild winter so far and it's easy to get spoiled by that. For most of November, and even after I came back last week, I'd been wearing a pretty light winter coat. The Big Fucking Winter Coat had only been brought out a few days, which was nice. But it does lull you into a false sense of reality. It staying this warm this far into winter is an abnormality, not reality.

And yesterday, reality began to close in. The temperature dropped and the wind picked up. And that trend continued today. Temperatures were around -37C with windchill. I'm not complaining, by the way. It's the reality of the place. But that doesn't mean the first few days when you're settling into this level of cold that it doesn't suck. We also better get used to it seeing as how the long range forecast indicates it's not going anywhere.

Anyway, we are now mostly settled into the house. We've had some requests for pictures, so I'll put up a few. It is a nice neighbourhood. We have a former premier as our next door neighbour, who came over to introduce himself today ("Hello, I'm Paul." Yes, I rather realized that), a former co-worker lives across the street and someone who used to live in our apartment building and regularly follows the blog lives just up the street. So it's nice.

Anyway, pictures of how the place is shaping up so far.

I WOULD KILL FOR THAT KIND OF CUPBOARD SPACE.

I am jealous! Look at all of those kitchen cupboards. I have a huge house here, but a dinky little kitchen.

Nice looking place!

I like the cupboards too! You whole place looks nice!

What is it like to have all of that space? And a dishwasher? Your lives must be transformed.

Wow, you guys scored. The place is well-designed, roomy (despite looking deceivingly small from the outside) and attractive. You also seem to have put your stamp on it already (the harvest of Cathy's mass slaughter of the cardboard boxes?)

Cathy finds it hilarious that I have no idea how to use the dishwasher. I've never had one before. Plus, we just had a case of Sunlight arrive in the sealift, so I suspect we'll still be doing dishes the old fashioned way from time to time.

The odd thing about the place so far, in terms of decorating, is that the ceiling are so high. So pictures that dominated a wall in previous apartments look tiny here. We desperately need our "Owls at Midnight", which is currently at Cathy's house, but as it would cost hundreds to ship it up here, it has to to wait until we have more money.

Nice digs.

You'll adapt to the dishwasher soon enough. But with only the two of you, you'll probably run out of spoons before you need to run a load, so you'll end up pulling stuff out to wash by hand. Have a couple of kids, then watch that sucker run. The clothes washer too...

Oh, and you should know that as you have now completed the setting down trifecta, (wedding, puppy, house) the pressure from well wishing/interferring extended family members for kids will ratchet up a few notches.

Have fun in Sin jawns over xmas!

all looks lovely - very envious -- but isn't it a bit early to have the stockings hung up???

have fun, enjoy, and don't worry about the relatives, i'm sure they're much too sensible to ask questions about jobs (honestly!) and if they do ask, it's just because they care about you!
