Day one done

So after several months of stress and fretting, the Mixed Nationals finally got under way. And so far, so good. It would have been nice if a few more people turned out, but you can only do so much. We took out newspaper ads, radio ads, posters and have done lots of media interviews. Short of going around town with a whip and chair to herd people into the arena, there's only so much you can do.

But there was a decent crowd at the arena, the opening ceremonies were nice and all the players seems pretty happy. A little freaked out by the cold, I think, but they're certainly interested in Iqaluit and the community.

I would have put up some pictures, but honestly, I didn't like many of the ones I took. The light at the arena isn't exactly conducive to nice pictures. Although there were photographers present, and they were all dragging around camera equipment much nicer than mine. I was suffering a serious case of camera envy today.

The unofficial home teams seem to be the Northwest Territories, which isn't a surprise, and the Newfoundland team, which I guess shouldn't be a surprise either, but is amusing that they got the biggest cheer of the evening. Too bad they lost to Saskatchewan.

I will post about things other than curling this week, I promise. You'll just have to forgive me for being a touch distracted by all of this right now.

Aaaah, go for it! Love to see your pics. Club shooting is always tough, the lightin is brutal... but who cares!

Cheers to a great event!
