The DVD haul

Dear God.

We are never, ever, never allowed into a store that sells DVDs. Or at least for the duration of this trip. We popped into Wal-Mart yesterday to buy soap. Soap! And we walked out with more than a dozen DVDs. We might as well open a rental store in Iqaluit when we get home.

Here's the grand list of DVDs we've bought since I arrived in St. John's a scant 10 days ago.

The Muppet Show - Season 1, The Tick - Season 2, Bones - Season 1, The Green Mile, The Usual Suspects, True Romance, Reservoir Dogs, Evil Dead II, Hellboy - Blood and Iron, Wallace and Gromit - Curse of the Were-Rabbit, Pretty Woman, Seven, The Matrix Reloaded, The Matrix Revolutions, St. Elmo's Fire, Stranger Than Fiction, The Shawshank Redemption, High Fidelity, The Neverending Story 1+2, Bull Durham, The Godfather 1+2, The Hunt for Red October, Labyrinth, Center Stage, The Prince and Me, Annie, The Untouchables, The Last of the Mohicans, The Italian Job, Hamlet, 300, Field of Dreams, Mary Poppins, Babylon 5 - Crusade, Babylon 5 - The Lost Tales, Benson - Season 1, Bones - Season 1, Planet Earth

For bonus points, see if you can figure out which one of us bought which DVDs.

The scary thing is this isn't the complete run of DVDs we were looking for. There were at least three DVDs I was looking for that I couldn't find - Real Genius, Much Ado About Nothing and Rosencrantz and Gilderstern are Dead.

Anyway, that's the DVD haul. Oh, and two video games - Resident Evil for the Wii and Guitar Hero: Rocks the 80s for PS2.

So yeah, that's it for us for, ummmm, years hopefully...

Really tickled to see The Muppet show and Labyrinth on your list. Love those choices.

If you like Sci fi at all, with a bit of humour you should rent or by the FireFly Season. The show is dead, but it was very good while it lasted.

you guys ever hear of downloading?

Can you get Netflix up there? Maybe you could open a DVD rental store!?

Nadine, we have Firefly and love it, although it depresses us to watch it knowing that it's gone.

Table, we have bandwidth limits in Nunavut. So even if I skirted the legalities involved with downloading movies, we would blow our bandwidth in short order. We only have 10 gigs per month and it can disappear very quickly if you're not careful. Also, as I'm learning being back in St. John's, Nunavut's idea of "high speed internet" is a cruel joke.

And Mrs. Smith, we get a version of Netflix, so yes, we could rent. But we just like owning the movies so when the moment hits and we really want to watch the Muppet Show, we can just pop in a DVD rather than waiting a week or so.

I own the Muppet Show season 1 too! I thought I was going o enjoy it again just for nostalgic reasons... but it is a really great show.

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead is great. I haven't seen that since high school.

What I really want to see again are The Money Pit, A League of Their Own and My Blue Heaven.

So for space reasons, are you just going to keep the DVDs and get rid of the cases?

In Iqaluit

hear of this one?

or

maybe you can post your snail mail and we all could send you a DVD!

I think joost would do terrible things to my bandwidth limits. It's also why I don't use something like Skype in Iqaluit. I don't want to guess wrong and get zapped with an extra couple of hundred dollars charge one month, which has already happened once.

As for the DVDs, we actually, and this kills me, toss out the cases and just take the discs up. We have no room for all those cases and no place to store them in St. John's.

I accidentally read "Babylon 5" as "Battlefield Earth" for some reason and I got really worried there for a second. Since I'm no longer temporarily dyslexic, I'll commend you on your choice, although I am admittedly much more of a Trekkie.

Guitar Hero: Rocks the 80s - we are sooooo jealous! We're thinking about Dance, Dance Revolution for those really ambitious winter evenings, but the downstairs neighbours might become perturbed.
